Laparoscopic subtotal cholecystectomy without cystic duct ligation.
BACKGROUND Cholecystectomy is made hazardous by distortion of the anatomy of Calot's triangle by acute or chronic inflammation. Laparoscopic subtotal cholecystectomy (LSTC) without cystic duct ligation is an alternative to conversion to open surgery in difficult cases. METHODS This prospective study included all cholecystectomies performed in a district general hospital upper gastrointestinal...
متن کاملExtra Corporeal Knotting with Silk versus Liga Clips for Ligating Cystic Duct in Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: a Comparative Study
Introduction Cholecystectomy is the common operation of the biliary tract. During cholecystectomy cystic duct can be secured with the sutures or clips. Knot tying in open surgery can be easily be learned and performed. However, knot tying becomes challenging and frustrating when performed laparoscopically. In laparoscopy there is lack of direct manual contact with tissue, therefore the sense of...
متن کاملAccessory cystic duct identification in laparoscopic cholecystectomy
We report the case of a 53-year-old lady who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and was found to have an accessory cystic duct close to the fundus. Careful dissection of the liver bed was done and the duct clipped preventing a bile leak. The presence of such ducts though rare should be identified during surgery to prevent potential complications.
متن کاملLaparoscopic Subtotal Cholecystectomy without Cystic Duct Clipping
Background: Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (LC) is hazardous in difficult cases due to distorted anatomy at callot’s triangle by acute or chronic cholecystitis. Laparoscopic subtotal cholecystectomy (LSC) is a feasible option in severe and complicated cholecystitis minimizing the rate of open conversion. Objectives: To assess the feasibility of LSC without cystic duct clipping thus avoiding the p...
متن کاملAbsorbable Versus Silk Sutures for Surgical Treatment of Trachomatous Trichiasis in Ethiopia: A Randomised Controlled Trial
BACKGROUND Trachoma causes blindness through an anatomical abnormality called trichiasis (lashes touching the eye). Trichiasis can recur after corrective surgery. We tested the hypothesis that using absorbable sutures instead of silk sutures might reduce the risk of recurrent disease among patients with major trichiasis in a randomised trial. METHODS AND FINDINGS 1,300 individuals with major ...
